RABIES VACCINATION PROGRAMME WESTERN SUBURBS APRIL 2023
The City of Bulawayo in partnership with the Department of Veterinary Field Services will be conducting a month-long rabies vaccination programme in the western suburbs.
Dog owners are required by law to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies disease at the age of three months then re-vaccinated at the age of twelve months. Thereafter, dog owners are required to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies disease annually.
Any person who acquires a dog with neither tattoo marks on the ears nor rabies vaccination certificate is required to vaccinate it within seven days of obtaining it, if it is three months old or more.
Vaccination may be done by a private veterinary surgeon, a government veterinary surgeon or by an authorised person. A fine of US$5 may be imposed on dog owners who fail to have a dog vaccinated against rabies. Dogs in the following areas are to be vaccinated as shown below. A charge of ZWL$1000 will be collected per dog vaccinated. For convenience of the public, two teams will carry out vaccinations at the following centres.
